What's new in Portland

What's up in Portland

Well most of you are in a much hotter part of the States than we are. Today the high was 82 and the low was 55. You can't beat the weather up here right now. People are outside and there are tons of festivals going on right now everything from the Woodstock Neighborhood Festival (Our neighborhood) all the way to the Oregon State Fair. The people really do get out more during this time of the year because when it starts to rain everyone seems to disappear. The city is such a fun city to be in right now with all the festivals, markets, and live music. We're eating up the outdoors from walks, to hiking, to camping.

What's up with the Family

Well as many of you know already our family is exponentially growing. Ashley is due with our little girl Selah at the beginning of October and we could not be more excited. We have been attending a pre-child birth class up at our hospital that has been really informative (mainly for Jason). True has began to say a few more words other than Dada, like "eat" "momma" and "I luuu yuu" and he is walking six or seven steps at a time. Jason is in the process of training for the Portland Marathon with another guy from the church. And Ashley is busy designing custom cards and taking care of Selah, True, and Jason.

What's up with the Church

Well Antioch Community Church is just over a year and half old and doing really well. We have been seeing people come to Christ, be baptized, and get involved in what God is doing. The church is in a little growth spurt right now so it is hard to quantify the number of people attending the services, but anywhere from 55-75 people any given Sunday. The church is starting a few new things that Ashley and I have been asked pioneer one being our missions training School. We are going to start GCTS (Great Commission Training School) at the beginning of January with about 7 students who are actively seeking to be on our staff or plant a church in another part of the US or world. We are really excited about the school and what God is going to do in the lives of those attending. Also Jason just finished preaching a five week series on Sundays that was titled "Fearless". The purpose was to look at characters in the bible who faced fears just like we do today, and how they and we can overcome those fears. The series was based on the scripture 2 Tim 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." I have attached one of the sermons if you have about 25 min you can check it out. We just returned from our staff retreat this past weekend and it was really great. We feel envisioned for what God has for us this year and really had a sweet yet powerful time with the Lord.

What's Around the Corner

Most of you know us well enough to know what we are always on the move. We are heading out to Los Angeles in a few weeks on a church wide mission trip. We'll be in LA for about a week helping the church launch and doing outreaches on UCLA campus. We obviously have the birth of our lovely little girl shortly following the trip. The rest of the fall we'll be working and here in Portland. Then in late December we'll be heading down to Katy for a little Christmas break. We hope to see many of you while we are there.

Thanks again for all you do for us, please keep us up to date on what is going on in your neck of the woods.

We Love you lots,

The Kennedys
